The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has endorsed former Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, for the Imo East Senatorial District seat, popularly known as Owerri Zone.
Anyanwu also declared that plans were underway to position Madumere as the next governor of Imo State through the Rainbow Coalition, a political platform led nationally by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
He made the remarks while addressing party members and supporters at a PDP campaign rally held at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Iho, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
Anyanwu described Madumere as the most qualified among the candidates contesting for the Owerri senatorial seat, citing his experience, exposure, leadership capacity and previous service in sensitive government positions.
He also said Madumere’s political connections and reach would place him in a strong position to attract development opportunities to the senatorial district.
Speaking at the rally, Anyanwu said he had decided to hand over the political leadership of Owerri Zone to Madumere, whom he considered capable of representing the area effectively.
“Madumere stands tall among his contemporaries. Since I left the Senate, I have not handed over to anybody. Today, I have decided to hand over to Madumere the mantle of leadership in Owerri Senatorial Zone, and by the special grace of God, so shall it be,” he said.
The PDP National Secretary further declared that the party remained active and prepared to challenge its political opponents, describing the Rainbow Coalition as a platform for bringing together influential political figures and advancing development across the country.
He identified himself as the coalition’s chairman in Imo State and Wike as its national leader. Anyanwu maintained that the political platform had come to stay, warning that those opposed to it were afraid of being exposed.

In his address, Madumere said he had engaged experts to conduct an aerial assessment of Owerri Zone and undertaken a needs assessment to identify the people’s priorities and development expectations.
He promised to continue from where Anyanwu stopped during his time in the Senate, adding that unfinished projects would be pursued to completion.
Madumere also said his political ambition extended beyond securing the senatorial seat, expressing his determination to work towards the PDP reclaiming the Imo governorship.
He urged party members and stakeholders to welcome new entrants, predicting an increase in the number of people joining the PDP in the coming weeks.
“I am seeking your mandate to represent Owerri Zone in the Senate because I believe our people deserve an experienced, accessible, and effective voice in Abuja,” Madumere said.
He listed youth opportunities, women’s economic empowerment, federal projects for communities and policies aimed at improving living conditions among his priorities.
Madumere added that his ambition was about the development of Ikeduru and Owerri Zone, rather than personal political advancement.
Also speaking, the Imo State PDP Chairman, Barrister Austin Nwachukwu, described the party as vibrant and urged members to demonstrate commitment, resilience and courage ahead of the elections.
The party’s Zonal Secretary, Hon. Mike Ahumibe, expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances of winning in Owerri Zone, describing the contest as an achievable opportunity and calling on members to work together towards victory.
