Gospel music minister Nathaniel Bassey has joined thousands of Nigerians in mourning the passing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, describing the revered evangelist as “a man of great power and deep spiritual understanding.”

In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, the Imela crooner reflected on the profound influence Ukpai had on his faith and ministry, recalling how the late preacher’s teachings on prayer and fasting helped shape his spiritual journey.

“Oh! Dr. Uma! Sometimes you wish some people would never die,” Bassey wrote. “Just a few days ago, I led multitudes in an evening fast—something I learnt from you and even mentioned so. You called me son. What a privilege. A man who knows the ways of the Spirit.”

Bassey hailed Ukpai not only for his miracles but also for his depth of humility and revelation, saying the evangelist showed that worship and praise were “powerful weapons in spiritual warfare.”
