Police confirm investigation as parents demand justice and child receives urgent medical care
A private security guard working at a school in Aba, Abia State, has been arrested by police over the alleged sexual assault of a three-year-old pupil within the school premises.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday along Umuosi Road by Ibadan Road after school hours, while the child was waiting to be picked up by her parents.
Residents said the suspect allegedly led the pupil to a secluded part of the compound before returning to his duty post.
The situation came to light when the child was later seen in visible discomfort, drawing the attention of nearby residents and her parents.
Brian Ogukwe, a resident of the area, said concerned adults checked on the child and quickly realised something was wrong, prompting an immediate report to the school authorities and the police.
“The security man was begging the angry crowd for forgiveness and blaming the devil for his actions, but the police stepped in and arrested him,” Ogukwe said.
The child was rushed to a hospital in Abia for urgent medical attention, while her parents have called for justice.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia for a full investigation.
Police say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
