Akaliro, who represents Umuahia North constituency, formally announced his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the APC chairman in Umuahia North Local Government Area.
The sole All Progressives Congress (APC) member in the Abia State House of Assembly, Anderson Akaliro, has resigned from the party, citing deep-seated crises and exclusion from its affairs.
He said persistent internal wrangling, leadership disputes, and what he described as “endless suspensions and counter-suspensions” had crippled the party in Abia.
The lawmaker also accused the APC of marginalising him, noting that he was deliberately shut out of party meetings and activities across the state.
Declaring his next political move, Akaliro pledged allegiance to the administration of Governor Alex Otti, whom he praised as “visionary and development-oriented.”
His exit leaves the Abia Assembly without any APC representation, a blow to the party’s influence in the state’s legislative chamber.
