Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has taken another step in his industrialisation agenda with the commissioning of the Ultimum Beverages Plant in Osisioma Local Government Area, an event officials say underscores the administration’s focus on job creation and economic expansion.

The project is being positioned as part of a broader plan to transform Aba and the wider Abia State into a thriving industrial and investment hub, with renewed attention on manufacturing and private-sector participation.

A key pillar of the governor’s strategy is the revival of previously inactive industries acquired from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). Among them are the Star Paper Mills located in Owerrinta and Aba, which are currently undergoing rehabilitation to make them viable for private-sector operation.

Officials say the move is aimed at ensuring these long-dormant assets contribute meaningfully to economic diversification, employment generation, and local development across the state.

The administration has also prioritised infrastructure development to support industrial growth. Upgrades to road networks, industrial layouts, and power supply are being implemented to create an environment that encourages businesses to operate and expand.

These improvements, according to the government, are intended to strengthen Aba’s position as a preferred destination for investors while also supporting existing industries.

The newly commissioned Ultimum Beverages Plant is expected to generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities, while also stimulating related economic activities within Osisioma and surrounding communities.

Observers say the development reflects a growing trend of public-private collaboration aimed at driving sustainable economic growth in the region.

Since assuming office in 2023, Governor Otti has focused on repositioning Abia State’s economy by reviving dormant assets and encouraging new investments, with the goal of building a more industrialised and prosperous state.

The commissioning of the plant adds to a series of initiatives by the administration, which officials describe as part of a long-term vision to create jobs, attract investment, and improve living standards across Abia State.

Dr. Ebere Uzoukwa, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, noted that the development reflects the administration’s commitment to transforming the state’s economic landscape.
