Abia Tragedy: 68-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Beating 22-Year-Old to Death with Native Cane

Police in Abia State have arrested a 68-year-old woman accused of flogging a young woman to death with a traditional cane.

The suspect, identified as Mrs. Victoria Madubuko of Ndiambe Ozuitem in Bende Local Government Area, allegedly beat 22-year-old Nnenna Eke during an altercation, using a cane locally known as “Okpete.”

Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, confirmed the incident on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the state police headquarters in Umuahia.

According to him, the victim fell seriously ill after the beating and was rushed to Tochi Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. Her body has since been deposited at Akaelu mortuary in Bende LGA.

Mrs. Madubuko has been taken into custody, and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia has launched a full investigation.

In a separate incident in Abia, police also confirmed the arrest of a man accused of fatally stabbing his neighbour during a dispute over a business transaction.

The victim, 31-year-old Chinonso Chukwuemeka of Abayi village, was stabbed in the chest by one Chimaobi Nwanne. He was rushed to Akachukwu Hospital in Eastern Ngwa but was confirmed dead by doctors.

Police say Nwanne fled to Umuezenta Mbasi village after the attack but was later apprehended by officers from the Eastern Ngwa Divisional Headquarters. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
