Abuja Blackout: AEDC Blames Technical Fault as Utako, Wuye Go Dark

Electricity supply was abruptly cut on Monday in Utako and parts of Wuye, Abuja, after a technical failure disrupted a major power feeder serving the areas, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has confirmed.

In a public notice issued on December 22, 2025, the power utility said the outage followed a fault on the distribution feeder responsible for supplying electricity to the affected neighbourhoods, plunging homes and businesses into darkness.

AEDC said engineers had been deployed to the site and repair work was already underway, though the company did not give a specific timeline for the restoration of power.

“We regret to inform you that the current power outage is due to a technical fault affecting the feeder serving your area,” the company said.

The electricity distributor apologised to customers for the disruption and appealed for patience as its technical team works to resolve the fault.

Recurring power outages remain a major concern for residents of Nigeria’s capital, where businesses and households continue to rely heavily on alternative power sources amid frequent grid and distribution challenges.
