Tragedy struck along the Yola–Mubi highway in Adamawa State on Monday evening after a vehicle conveying church members to a religious convention crashed, leaving four women dead and 26 others injured.
The victims were reportedly travelling to the annual convention of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria in Demsa Local Government Area when the accident occurred.
Donan Prambe, Deputy Chairman of Song Local Government Area, said the women were members of LCCN Simra in Dunen town and were heading to the convention when their vehicle lost control.
Prambe, who said he was driving behind the vehicle at the time, described how it suddenly veered off the road.
“Three women died on the spot,” he said, adding that others were found critically injured.
Emergency responders moved both the deceased and the injured to the Specialist Hospital in Yola.
Dr Dauda Wadinga, Medical Director of the Specialist Hospital, confirmed that those brought in alive were receiving treatment.
The full circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear.
Suleiman Nguroje, spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, said he would provide further details after consulting the Divisional Police Officer in the area. However, no official update had been issued at the time of filing this report.
The incident adds to growing concerns about road safety on major highways in Adamawa State, particularly along the busy Yola–Mubi route.
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the crash.
