Air Peace Denies Extortion Claims, Demands CCTV Reveal of Oshiomhole Incident

Nigeria’s biggest airline, Air Peace, has looked to shift the spotlight on former Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole, insisting the allegations of passenger extortion during his missed flight are “deliberate falsehoods.” On June 12, 2025, the carrier called for FAAN to release airport CCTV footage to settle the matter once and for all.

The row began when Oshiomhole criticized Air Peace at Lagos airport, accusing the staff of demanding extra pay and overbooking—claims the airline vehemently rejected. In its statement, Air Peace says no tickets were sold after check-in closed, challenging the ex-governor to produce proof.

Air Peace also emphasised the flight left with over 30 empty seats, contradicting Oshiomhole’s overbooking claim. “We would have gladly rebooked those delayed passengers,” the airline noted, adding they won’t sacrifice punctuality for financial gain.

The airline reported that Oshiomhole arrived late for check-in and responded by disrupting operations—climbing onto the baggage belt, blocking the terminal, and inciting other travellers.

Oshiomhole’s camp, however, maintains the claims were aimed at highlighting a systemic issue. Yet, Air Peace responded with a challenge—produce just one passenger who paid extra, and we’ll initiate an inquiry .

Adding gravity to the situation, Air Peace accused Oshiomhole of unfairly using his profile to “foment trouble,” while calling his behaviour “aggressive, inappropriate and disgraceful.” The airline reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on disruptions .

With the public now awaiting FAAN’s CCTV footage, questions swirl: Was this a case of genuine consumer rights advocacy or a high-profile confrontation gone wrong? The release could not only vindicate or condemn, but set new expectations for airline accountability in Nigeria.
