The Social Democratic Party (SDP) chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, has pledged to end double taxation and curb what he described as unnecessary demolitions if elected in the 2026 council polls.
The pledge was disclosed by the President-General of the Igbo Community Association in the Federal Capital Territory, Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, during a press conference held in Abuja on Monday.
Ellis-Ezenekwe said the association had reviewed Simon’s campaign manifesto and found his proposals directly addressed issues affecting everyday residents of the council.
“We studied his manifesto. One of the key commitments is to stop double taxation in AMAC,” he said. “Needless demolition will also be curbed legally, with a human face. These are issues that touch ordinary residents of the FCT.”
He noted that the association’s support was not based on ethnic considerations but on shared concerns as residents of Abuja.
According to him, double taxation and indiscriminate demolitions have placed heavy financial and social burdens on residents and small businesses across the area council.
Ellis-Ezenekwe urged voters in AMAC to rally behind the SDP candidate when residents go to the polls on 21 February 2026, describing Simon’s agenda as people-centred and inclusive.
The AMAC chairmanship election is expected to draw keen interest as candidates outline plans to address taxation, urban development and residents’ welfare within Nigeria’s capital territory.
