Anambra 2025: APC Candidate Ukachukwu Caught in Viral N1bn Debt Drama, Camp Cries ‘Political Blackmail’

The build-up to the Anambra governorship election has taken a dramatic turn after videos surfaced online showing All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu being confronted by alleged creditors in Abuja over an unpaid N1 billion debt.

The viral footage, reportedly recorded at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, shows a group of men blocking Ukachukwu’s path as he attempted to leave with his wife and young son. They accused him of owing them money and demanded repayment.

APGA supporters amplify video

The video was widely circulated by supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who is seeking re-election.

APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ejimofor Opara, described the incident as proof that Ukachukwu was unfit to govern, alleging:

“He wants to contest so that he will use public money to clear his personal debt. Anambra people will not have that happen.”

Ukachukwu’s camp fires back

But Ukachukwu’s team has dismissed the videos as fabricated propaganda designed to discredit him ahead of the polls.

Dr Justin Nwankwo, a staunch supporter, labelled the confrontation “a poorly scripted political drama.”

“When you see a staged video, you will know. If truly someone is owed N1 billion, is the street the new bank? Where are the court papers, collateral, or lawyers? Instead, they came with cameramen. This is nothing but a choreographed act for social media,” Nwankwo argued.

He insisted that the timing was suspicious, adding that desperate politicians were resorting to “cheap blackmail” as election day draws closer.

“No amount of staged harassment can stop the wind of change blowing across Anambra,” he said. “Fake N1 billion debts will not decide this election. Real issues will – security, jobs, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and genuine leadership.”

The incident has further intensified the already heated political atmosphere in Anambra, where APC and APGA are bracing for a fierce contest.
