Anambra Guber: ADC Candidate John Nwosu Swears Affidavit to Serve Only One Term

African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, John Chuma Nwosu, has formally sworn an affidavit committing to serve only one term if elected governor of Anambra State in the upcoming November 8, 2025 election.

Nwosu, who hails from Nnewi in Anambra South — the same zone as incumbent Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo — made the legal declaration at the High Court in Awka on Thursday.

His decision aligns with Anambra’s long-standing but unwritten zoning agreement, which rotates the governorship among the state’s three senatorial districts. By pledging to serve only one term, Nwosu said he intends to complete the South’s remaining slot before the baton shifts to another zone.

“This is not just a political statement but a legal commitment,” Nwosu told journalists after signing the affidavit. “I came into the race to serve, not to rule. Four years is enough to transform Anambra if there is sincerity of purpose.”

Political observers have described the move as a bold and symbolic gesture, reflecting transparency and respect for equity in Anambra’s political landscape.

Nwosu emphasized that leadership should be about results, not the pursuit of power. His affidavit is expected to spark fresh conversations among stakeholders about zoning, power rotation, and political integrity in the state.

Governor Soludo, who is seeking a second term, also hails from Anambra South, setting up what many analysts predict will be a closely watched contest.
