Anambra Police Assure Safe Christmas, Urge Diaspora to Return Home

Anambra State is secure and ready for the festive season, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has assured, urging indigenes living in the diaspora to return home for Christmas.

Speaking after what has been described as the most peaceful and successful gubernatorial election in the state’s history, CP Orutugu highlighted that deliberate policing strategies and community engagement have transformed Anambra into a safe haven for residents and visitors alike.

“Anambra is a safe place. Prepare and come home for Christmas,” he said, stressing that visible policing and proactive measures have minimized crime across all local government areas.

Since taking office nine months ago as the 35th Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Orutugu has implemented a community-driven, intelligence-led approach. His strategy focuses on crime prevention, rapid response, and building trust between the police and the public.

“I police not your actions but your emotions by counseling, appealing to your conscience,” Orutugu explained, emphasizing a policy of minimal reliance on firearms.

The police chief noted that collaboration with traditional rulers, youth groups, and religious leaders has enhanced early intelligence sharing, helping to prevent criminal activities before they occur. Flashpoint deployment strategies have further strengthened security across vulnerable areas and border communities.

Orutugu also reassured that professionalism and respect for human rights remain central to Anambra policing, with zero tolerance for misconduct, extortion, or abuse of power.

“Residents and indigenes returning home for the festive season can expect a visible security presence, rapid response readiness, and a policing system designed to safeguard lives and property,” he added.

With community engagement and strategic deployments, Orutugu said Anambra has emerged as a model for peace and security in the region.

“Through deliberate policing and grassroots engagement, we have maintained peace. Anambra is ready for the festive season. Come home,” CP Orutugu concluded.
