A delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors has pledged unwavering support for efforts to rescue the students abducted from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State. The governors, under the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), visited Birnin Kebbi on Thursday in a show of solidarity with the affected families and state authorities.
PGF chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, condemned the attack in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area as “tragic and unacceptable,” saying the forum felt compelled to stand with the state at a moment of distress.
“It is painful, and we deemed it necessary to identify with you at this difficult time,” Uzodimma said, reaffirming the commitment of APC governors to support security efforts led by President Bola Tinubu.
He stressed that the governors were united in the push to strengthen national security: “We are your brothers in unity, standing firmly behind President Bola Tinubu to ensure that national security is strengthened and that this ugly trend of insecurity is curbed. As governors in the PGF, we are united and committed to doing whatever it takes to secure Nigeria.”
Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude for the visit and said President Tinubu had assured the state and parents of the abducted schoolgirls that the Federal Government was deploying every necessary resource to secure their safe return.
“We have already directed clerics to pray for the safe return of the students and for peace in the state,” Idris added.
The delegation included Governors Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Ahmed Usman-Ododo of Kogi, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, and Nasarawa Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe. They were accompanied by senior federal officials such as Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs Tanko Sununu, Senator Bala Ibn-Na’Allah, and lawmakers Bello Ka’oje and Kabiru Tukura.
