APC Reschedules Abia Ward and LGA Congresses Amid Unity Breakthrough

Abia State’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced new dates for its rescheduled party congresses, following last week’s suspension of the exercise due to internal disputes.

The Ward Congress will now take place on Wednesday, 25th February 2026, while the Local Government Congress is slated for Thursday, 26th February 2026, according to a statement released by the APC caucus in Abia State.

The party said the temporary halt was necessary to resolve friction within the state chapter, emphasizing that “unity has now been restored,” allowing the congresses to proceed smoothly.

The State Congress is still scheduled for Tuesday, 3rd March 2026.

Speculation has been rife over whether Governor Alex Otti might join the APC to pursue a second term in office. However, his media aides, Ferdinand Ekeoma and Dodoh Okafor, have dismissed the rumours, insisting that no decision has been made.

Political analysts suggest that the upcoming congresses will be a crucial test of APC’s internal cohesion in Abia, ahead of a potentially heated gubernatorial race.
