Felix Morka says FCT Minister can campaign across party lines following Area Council elections
The Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has defended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s right to support candidates of any political party.
Morka made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, responding to events in the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, where Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidates in AMAC and Bwari stepped down for APC rivals.
Morka stated:
“If Nyesom Wike wants to go on campaigning for any candidate in any party whatsoever, he has the inherent liberty to do so. Wike is a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who also has freedom guaranteed by the constitution. He has the right to support any candidate he wants. He has that freedom to engage, freedom to participate in our democracy and to hold his own opinion and to express same and take lawful action to back his opinion. It’s not about Wike’s relationship with the APC but about his views and perspective of what he believes and what he as a citizen has the right to do.”
The APC spokesman emphasised that Wike’s support of candidates outside his party is a matter of personal opinion and democratic engagement, rather than a reflection of his relationship with APC.
The statement comes amid heightened political discussions as the 2027 general elections approach, with cross-party endorsements drawing national attention.
