Arewa Youths Urge Tinubu to Sack Defence Minister Christopher Musa Over Rising Insecurity

A northern advocacy group, Arewa Youths, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, citing worsening insecurity across parts of northern Nigeria.

The demand was made by the group’s president, Abdul Danbature, during an interview aired on News Century TV on Wednesday.

Danbature criticised the defence minister’s handling of the country’s security challenges, arguing that the situation had deteriorated despite expectations when Musa assumed office.

“General Christopher Musa is someone that we celebrated so much when he was appointed as the Minister of Defense, but as it is today, we say no to Christopher Musa,” he said.

The group alleged that insecurity has escalated in recent weeks, claiming that dozens of military personnel had been killed in attacks by armed groups, while hundreds of civilians were reportedly kidnapped across affected communities.

Danbature further argued that the defence minister’s continued stay in office could undermine public confidence in the government’s ability to address the security crisis.

“We are calling for Christopher Musa’s resignation. He needs to vacate that seat and allow someone who is competent to come and lead the Ministry of Defense,” he said.

He also warned that failure to act could damage the administration’s reputation.

“Mr President, if you do not take any action, Christopher Musa will destroy your leadership as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Danbature added.

The comments come amid growing concern over renewed attacks by armed groups in parts of northern Nigeria, where communities continue to face security threats including kidnappings and insurgent violence.
