Makurdi, Benue State – February 17, 2026 – A young man identified as Geo Freeman is receiving hospital treatment after armed robbers allegedly shot him and stole his motorcycle and mobile phone in Makurdi, the state capital.

The incident, which has sparked outrage on social media, was disclosed by the victim’s elder brother, Awar SteevoooFresh, in an emotional Facebook post. He described Geo as a hardworking and vibrant young man, striving to earn a living, and lamented the escalating insecurity across the state.

According to the account, the attack occurred within Makurdi metropolis, with gunmen carting away the victim’s motorcycle and mobile phone. The family expressed concern over the growing trend of motorcycle theft and violent robberies targeting unsuspecting residents.

Such incidents, often involving firearms, have left victims injured or worse, heightening fear among commercial motorcyclists and young entrepreneurs who rely on motorcycles for their daily income.

Sympathisers have called for strengthened security measures and swift action against the perpetrators, stressing that citizens should not face violence while pursuing legitimate livelihoods. Geo Freeman is reportedly responding to treatment, with prayers and goodwill messages pouring in for his recovery.

Efforts to reach DSP Udeme Edet, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, for confirmation of the incident, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
