Awujale Selection Drama: Nominees Ordered to Report to DSS in Ijebu-Ode

Nominees for the Awujale of Ijebuland stool have been instructed to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) office in Ijebu-Ode on Wednesday morning, as the traditional leadership selection process continues under heightened scrutiny.

The directive, issued in a letter dated January 20, 2026, was signed by Chief Ayotunde Ola Odulaja, Secretary of the Awujale Afobaje Council. It was addressed to the chairman, deputy chairman and vice chairman of the Fusengbuwa kingmakers council.

DSS Meeting Replaces Scheduled Meet-and-Greet

The letter directed all Awujale nominees to present themselves at the DSS office located along NTA Road, beside the State Psychiatric Hospital, off Igbeba Road, by 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

It also announced the cancellation of a planned meet-and-greet at the Aafin Awujale.

“We write to formally inform you that the meet-and-greet earlier scheduled for this morning at the Aafin Awujale has been cancelled,” the letter stated.

The council apologised for the disruption and urged nominees to be punctual and comply fully with the new directive.

Government Halts Selection Process Amid Uncertainty

The development comes after the Ogun State Government announced a pause in the ongoing selection process for the new Awujale of Ijebuland.

As of the time of filing this report, the purpose of the DSS meeting and any potential outcomes had not been disclosed.
