Ayra Starr has officially confirmed that she has relocated from Nigeria to New York City, marking a major shift in her personal life and fast-rising global career.
The Grammy-nominated singer revealed the development during a recent appearance on Hot 93.7FM’s Buck N Regg, where she spoke candidly about why the move felt natural for her.
According to the 23-year-old star, New York has always felt like home, and the decision to relocate permanently came just weeks ago after several trips that deepened her connection to the city.
“I live in New York now; I officially moved in less than two months ago,” she said. “I’m always in New York regardless—it reminds me so much of Lagos. There are many Nigerians here, so it feels like home.”
Ayra Starr explained that the transition wasn’t an impulsive one. She recalled being on stage earlier in the year and suddenly sensing that New York was where she needed to be.
She added that the city energises her, providing the right balance of cultural familiarity and creative freedom. “I know why I am here. I know my priorities. And I’m here for a good time,” she said.
Her relocation comes at a time when her international presence is expanding, with global tours, charting singles, and major media appearances boosting her status as one of Africa’s most influential young artists.
