
Two residents were killed and a vigilante wounded during a violent attack by armed bandits in Eruku community, Ekiti Local Government Area, Kwara South Senatorial District, on Tuesday evening.
The victims, identified as Aderemi and Tunde Asaba Ajayi, died from gunshot injuries, while Segun Alaja, a local vigilante, sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to ECWA Hospital, Eruku for treatment. Several other residents were reportedly abducted during the assault.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement by spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi. Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Eruku and aided by vigilante groups, responded promptly to the sound of gunfire, forcing the attackers to flee into nearby bushes.
“Upon thorough search of the area, one victim, Mr Aderemi, was found fatally shot inside the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, while Mr Tunde Asaba Ajayi was discovered dead in the bush,” the statement said.
State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, praised the swift action of law enforcement and vigilantes and vowed that security agencies would continue operations until the perpetrators are apprehended.
