Silverbird Group founder and former senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has declared that World War III is inevitable but believes Nigeria will emerge untouched, serving as a refuge for survivors fleeing destruction in the West, thanks to its neutral diplomacy and lack of nuclear ambitions.
Appearing in a live interview on Tuesday, June 18, 2025, with global affairs strategist Dane Waters, Murray-Bruce painted a grim picture of the world’s political climate. He blamed the escalating presence of “trigger-happy” global leaders and rampant militarisation for what he sees as the unavoidable outbreak of a third world war.
The former Bayelsa East senator stated that while much of the world would be drawn into devastating conflict, Africa—particularly Nigeria—would remain untouched. He argued that the continent’s non-aggressive foreign policy, coupled with its lack of nuclear weapons or territorial ambitions, makes it an unlikely target in any global war scenario.
Murray-Bruce said, “We’re in big trouble. World War III is coming, and it’s going to be terrible. But nobody’s going to fight in Nigeria. We don’t want to fight anyone, and we’re friends with all our neighbours.” He stressed that Nigeria’s diplomatic neutrality is its strongest asset in staying safe from global aggression.
Referencing the rising geopolitical tensions in Iran, Israel, Russia, and Ukraine, he said global powerhouses are edging dangerously close to total confrontation. “When you look at what’s happening in the Middle East—missile exchanges, drone strikes—it’s not a matter of if, but when,” he added.
He drew parallels with the First and Second World Wars, the Vietnam War, and others, linking them to reckless global leadership. “It’s not the people who want war; it’s the leaders. And right now, we have too many crazy ones with access to weapons,” he said, warning that history could easily repeat itself under current conditions.
Murray-Bruce also predicted that, following global destruction, Nigeria would become a hub for displaced populations from the West, but insisted that entry would be governed by strict visa rules. “We’ll welcome Americans, Iranians, Israelis—under one condition: get your visas. We’re not taking anyone in illegally,” he warned with a mix of seriousness and sarcasm.
His comments have sparked fierce debate on social media and political circles, with some praising his foresight and others dismissing the remarks as overly alarmist. Nonetheless, his bold projection touches on serious global fears as tensions rise across continents and diplomacy weakens in the face of rising militarism.
