Body Found Behind Abandoned School Confirmed as Missing Philadelphia Woman, Kada Scott

Authorities in Philadelphia have confirmed that human remains discovered behind an abandoned school belong to 23-year-old Kada Scott, who had been missing for nearly two weeks.

Prosecutors said on Monday that DNA testing verified the remains found buried in a shallow grave behind a disused middle school in East Mount Airy as those of Scott. Her body was discovered after police received a fresh anonymous tip urging them to revisit the site.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner described the discovery as “deeply tragic,” assuring the public that further charges, including homicide, are expected against the primary suspect.

“I am confident that homicide charges will be brought,” Krasner said. “But I also have an obligation to follow the law and uphold the constitution. That means we don’t take shortcuts.

Police have arrested 21-year-old Keon King of Dover, Delaware, who now faces multiple charges including kidnapping, stalking, arson, and conspiracy. His bail has been set at $2.5 million. Prosecutors say more charges are pending as the investigation unfolds.

According to prosecutor Ashley Toczylowski, cellphone records show communication between King and Scott, while surveillance footage and digital data place King near key locations tied to her disappearance. A black Hyundai Accent linked to the case was found burned and compacted before investigators could examine it.

Authorities allege that the stolen car was used during Scott’s abduction. The vehicle had been reported stolen a day before she vanished after leaving her overnight shift at an assisted living facility.

Toczylowski revealed that the latest tip—urging investigators to “go back, she’s there, look again”—led police to recover Scott’s remains after an earlier search came up empty. She added that investigators “have reason to believe other people may have been involved after the fact.”

Officials disclosed that King was previously arrested earlier this year in another kidnapping case but released on bail after the charges were dropped when the victim and witness failed to appear in court.

Scott’s parents, in a statement released Monday, described their daughter as a “light, kindness, and beautiful spirit,” saying their hearts have been “shattered” by her death.

The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare to file additional charges.
