Borno APC dismisses claims of ‘anointed’ candidates ahead of December LG elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State has debunked reports suggesting that certain aspirants have been “anointed” ahead of the December 25 local government elections.

State Chairman, Bello Ayuba, said the party has officially notified the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC) of its readiness to participate in the polls, assuring that preparations are underway to conduct transparent primaries across the state’s 27 local government areas and 312 wards.

According to Ayuba, four key committees—Sale of Forms, Screening, Appeal, and Reconciliation—have been set up to oversee the election process. He disclosed that the Sale of Forms Committee has already started issuing nomination forms free of charge to party members aspiring for chairmanship and councillorship positions.

“The Screening Committee will verify all documents submitted by aspirants, a process that will take about one week before the conduct of primaries,” Ayuba explained.

He added that even in cases where only one aspirant seeks a position, the committees will still confirm the candidate’s popularity and acceptance among party members.

Ayuba stressed that the APC remains committed to internal democracy, fairness, and equal opportunity for all contestants.

“The APC in Borno is fair to all. No one has been denied access to nomination forms, and every aspirant is treated equally,” he said.

The clarification comes amid rising speculation within political circles that some candidates had already secured endorsement from party leaders ahead of the polls.

With the LG elections barely two months away, the APC leadership in Borno appears determined to maintain unity and transparency within its ranks.
