US authorities have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Law enforcement officials identified the alleged gunman as 21-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah, according to NBC News, which cited five senior security sources.
Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck on Tuesday while speaking during a debate at Utah Valley University. Officials described the incident as a “targeted assassination,” with the attacker firing a single round from a rooftop overlooking the venue.
President Donald Trump confirmed Robinson’s arrest in an interview with Fox News, saying investigators acted “with a high degree of certainty” in taking him into custody.
The former president praised the swift coordination between local police and state officials, describing their efforts as “decisive and commendable.”
Authorities have yet to release further details about Robinson’s motive or whether he acted alone. The case has sent shockwaves across the US, drawing condemnation from political leaders and sparking fresh debate on public safety at political events.
Kirk, a prominent conservative commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, had been a controversial but influential figure in US politics before his assassination.
