China Sees “Glimmer of Hope” in Iran Peace Talks Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict

China has expressed cautious optimism over potential diplomatic progress in the Middle East conflict, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi describing a “glimmer of hope” for peace despite persistent hostilities.

Wang made the comments during separate calls with Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egypt’s foreign counterpart, citing signals from both the United States and Iran that suggest a possible return to negotiations.

“With both sides indicating a willingness to engage, a glimmer of hope for peace has emerged,” Wang said.

The remarks come amid heightened diplomatic activity, as global powers seek to end a war that has persisted for weeks with no clear resolution. China has urged sustained dialogue, warning that continued fighting could worsen the humanitarian and economic crisis in the region.

However, Iran has denied that any negotiations are underway. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi maintained that discussions would imply an admission of defeat, reaffirming Tehran’s hardline stance.

Conversely, U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iranian officials are quietly seeking a deal but are hesitant to admit it publicly.

“They want to make a deal badly, but they’re afraid to say it,” Trump said during a meeting with Republican lawmakers.

Analysts note that the gap between public statements and behind-the-scenes diplomacy underscores the complexity of the crisis, with both sides balancing military pressure and political positioning. Meanwhile, Turkey has intensified its mediation efforts, keeping communication channels open with Washington and Tehran.

Despite diplomatic overtures, fighting on the ground continues, with no immediate signs of de-escalation. China warned that prolonging the conflict could lead to more casualties and wider regional instability, urging all parties to prioritise negotiations over escalation.
