A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in Oyo State on November 15, 2025, delivering a significant legal and political victory to the camp aligned with former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike.
In its ruling, the court barred members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from parading themselves as national officers of the party, effectively stripping the faction of legitimacy.
The court further declared that the Caretaker Committee headed by Mohammed Abdulrahman, alongside Senator Samuel Anyanwu, remains the only recognised National Working Committee of the PDP, pending the conduct of a fresh and valid national convention in line with the party’s constitution.
The judgment represents the latest development in the prolonged internal crisis that has plagued the PDP, deepening leadership divisions and fuelling factional battles within Nigeria’s main opposition party.
Political analysts say the ruling could significantly alter internal power dynamics, strengthen the influence of the Wike-aligned bloc, and intensify pressure on the PDP to urgently organise a court-compliant national convention.
More details are expected to emerge as reactions continue to trail the judgment.
