Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has said he would support efforts to bring Peter Obi back to the party if the former presidential candidate fails to secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket for the 2027 general elections.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV, monitored by DAILY POST, where he discussed the emerging political alignments ahead of the 2027 polls.
He expressed strong respect for Obi, noting that his priority is to ensure that the former Anambra State governor remains in a strong political platform capable of contesting the presidency.
“I have much respect for Peter Obi. If he doesn’t get the ADC ticket, he should come back to the Labour Party please,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He added that he would actively support Obi’s return to the Labour Party and work towards securing him the party’s presidential ticket.
“I will work for him and try to get him the ticket in the Labour Party. I will try and mend the ways between him and whoever he may have offended,” he stated.
Baba-Ahmed served as Obi’s running mate during the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party platform, a partnership that attracted significant national attention and support.
His latest comments come amid growing political discussions around Obi’s potential presidential ambition in 2027 and the possible platforms he may contest under.
