Defence Minister Matawalle Secures Court Order to Block Media Reports Linking Him to Terrorism

Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Bello Matawalle, has sought judicial intervention to prevent several media outlets from publishing reports alleging his involvement with terrorist groups.

On Wednesday, Matawalle’s legal team filed a suit at the Kano State High Court (Case No. 4), prompting the court to issue a temporary injunction against Sahara Reporters, Mikiya, Omoyele Sowore, and other organisations. The order bars these outlets from releasing any stories related to the allegations until further notice.

The media claims, which surfaced following the replacement of former Defence Minister Badaru with General Christopher Musa, caused a nationwide stir. Matawalle maintains that the reports are false, misleading, and damaging to his reputation.

In his application to the court, Matawalle argued that the publications lack credible evidence and could misinform the public while undermining his integrity and official duties.

The legal action underscores rising tensions between Nigeria’s political establishment and media outlets, highlighting the delicate balance between press freedom and protection of personal and official reputations.
