Delta Police Nab Suspected Illegal Gun Manufacturer, Seize Locally Made Firearms

Delta State police have arrested a suspected illegal gun maker and seized multiple firearms along with equipment used for their fabrication, following a raid in Emuhu, Ika South LGA.

Raid Yields Firearms and Production Equipment

The operation, conducted in the early hours of March 6, 2026, at around 5 a.m., was led by Akanya Agbogha, commander of the Delta State Police Raiders Squad. Acting on credible intelligence, officers arrested 59-year-old Friday Ojei, suspected of manufacturing guns illegally.

Police recovered four locally fabricated firearms, as well as tools believed to have been used in production, including a welding machine, drilling machine, grinding machine, and metal pipes.

SP Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, confirmed the arrest, adding that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue to identify other individuals connected to the firearm network.

Additional Firearm Seized in Ovwian-Aladja

Separately, a joint patrol team from the Ovwian-Aladja Division, led by CSP Ekundayo Friday, recovered another locally fabricated gun during a routine stop-and-search along Film Hall Road.

Officers noticed a group of suspected hoodlums fleeing upon sighting the patrol. The suspects abandoned a black bag, which contained the firearm. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing individuals.

Police Reaffirm Commitment to Security

Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, praised the officers involved, emphasizing the command’s focus on intelligence-led policing and proactive operations to curb illegal firearm proliferation across Delta State.
