Edo PDP Backs Obaseki, Accuses Governor Okpebholo of ‘Provocation and Destructive Politics’

Edo State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its full weight behind former governor Godwin Obaseki, warning that his achievements must not be distorted or dismantled by the current administration.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, said the PDP would resist any attempt to diminish the former governor’s record, insisting that Obaseki’s stewardship strengthened public finances, safeguarded the state’s resources and protected citizens from the excesses of political godfathers.

“We stand with him because he governed with courage, protected Edo’s treasury, uplifted Edo people and resisted the predatory demands of political godfathers,” Osa-Ogbegie said. “History will vindicate him. Edo people already have.”

The party described Obaseki’s legacy as one built on reform and stability, stressing that those criticising him had contributed little to the state’s development.

Warning to Tinubu Over Rising Tension

The PDP urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State to order, accusing Governor Monday Okpebholo and his aides of actions capable of “overheating the polity”.

It warned that the political atmosphere in the state could deteriorate if the alleged provocations were not addressed swiftly.

According to the PDP, the brand of politics currently emanating from the APC is “bitterness, not service; vendetta, not vision”, adding that the party remains committed to defending the progress recorded under Obaseki’s administration.

Government officials in Edo had yet to respond to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
