Edo Police Hunt Man Who Allegedly Attacked Girlfriend with Acid Over Infidelity Suspicions

The Edo State Police Command is actively seeking information to locate Timothy Gilbert, who allegedly poured acid on his girlfriend, 40-year-old Angela Ogah, in Benin City.

CSP Moses Yamu, the command’s spokesperson, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that Gilbert fled immediately after the attack, which occurred at Ihovbe Quarters, Ikpoba Hill area.

The police revealed that the incident followed a heated argument fueled by “suspicions of infidelity,” before Gilbert allegedly resorted to the violent act. Ogah is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital for severe burns and is reported to be fighting for her life.

CSP Yamu appealed to couples to avoid abusive relationships, emphasising that “love is not by force,” and urged members of the public to provide any information that could assist in Gilbert’s arrest.

Ogah’s lawyer, John Izegaegbe, has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, demanding urgent intervention and justice for his client. Authorities have confirmed that Gilbert remains at large as the investigation continues.

The case adds to growing concerns over gender-based violence in Edo State, highlighting the urgent need for public awareness and stricter enforcement against domestic and intimate partner abuse.
