Edo Police Warn: “Tell Someone Where You’re Going—even for a Hookup—Killers Are Everywhere”

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer has issued a serious warning to young women, urging them to always inform a trusted contact about their whereabouts—even when meeting someone for a romantic “hookup.” The caution comes amid rising concerns over stranger attacks and the near-lynching of alleged criminals in the state.

PRO Moses Yamu stressed during a press briefing on June 24, 2025, that violence has become unpredictable—mob action and criminal ambushes are on the rise. He implored women to share their location, time of departure, and return status with parents or friends whenever they leave home for non-essential visits.

A harrowing February case underscored this urgency when a governor’s aide’s driver was arrested for allegedly assaulting the aide’s 15‑year‑old daughter. Police only uncovered the crime because the girl’s parents noted her disappearance after spending time with the driver.

The PRO emphasized that disclosure of plans might seem trivial, but it has become a critical line of defense. “Many violent crimes follow trust betrayed,” Yamu stated. “Informing someone about your meeting could save your life.”

He also reaffirmed Edo State Police’s commitment to protecting citizens. Special units are being trained in ambush detection and rapid response tactics—measures already used to clamp down on vigilante attacks in March .

Meanwhile, Governor Monday Okpebholo took further steps by suspending unauthorized vigilante groups and disciplining security leaders after the lynching of 16 travellers in Uromi, underscoring how unchecked aggression is driving urgent safety reforms.

Yamu concluded with a firm reminder: “No romantic encounter is worth risking your life. Tell someone your location, who you’re meeting, and when you’ll return.” His words aimed to encourage a culture of precaution—especially as Edo battles rising insecurity.
