Edo Security Corps Arrest Two Suspects Allegedly Supplying Motorcycles to Kidnappers in Uromi

Authorities crack down on syndicates aiding kidnappers in Edo Central

Operatives of the Edo Security Corps (ESSC) have apprehended two men allegedly involved in stealing motorcycles for suspected kidnappers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area, Edo State.

The suspects, Yusuf and Zubairu, were arrested in a forest following a tip-off, the Deputy Commander of ESSC, Richard Balogun, told reporters on Tuesday in Benin City.

Balogun alleged that the duo were part of a syndicate operating across the Edo Central senatorial district, stealing motorcycles and delivering them to kidnappers in forest hideouts. According to the ESSC, the stolen motorcycles are used by kidnappers to move to towns, purchase food, and collect ransom from victims’ families.

“Before their arrest, the suspects had stolen over eight motorcycles for suspected kidnappers. They were caught before they could deliver another four motorcycles in a single day,” Balogun said.

The suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation and necessary action, while the ESSC has intensified foot and motorised patrols in Edo Central to curb criminal activities.

Authorities have urged residents to report suspicious movements to security operatives, as the crackdown on syndicates supplying kidnappers continues.
