ENTRACO Official in Police Custody Following Owerri Accident That Killed Two

An official of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) has been taken into custody by the Nigeria Police after an accident in Owerri claimed the life of one person and left another seriously injured. The incident occurred on November 10, 2025, and preliminary investigations suggest the ENTRACO staff may face a murder charge.

According to reports, the accident happened when the official, while impounding a Ford Edge (SEL) for obstructing traffic around Relief Junction, Egbu Road, inadvertently caused a collision with a motorbike plying a restricted one-way route near St. Mulumba Junction, Wethral Road by Akachi.

ENTRACO expressed deep regret over the tragedy in a statement, offering condolences to the bereaved family and prayers for the injured victim’s recovery.

“We strongly condemn this unfortunate and avoidable incident, which has left the ENTRACO family in mourning,” the statement read.

The commission confirmed that the staff involved has been handed over to the police for a thorough investigation and reiterated its commitment to road safety, warning residents against using motorbikes in Owerri Municipality, where the ban remains in force.

“Driving one-way or using motorbikes on restricted routes is hazardous, unlawful, and life-threatening,” ENTRACO said, urging residents to comply with traffic regulations to prevent future tragedies.

The incident underscores ongoing concerns over road safety within Owerri and the importance of adhering to municipal traffic laws.
