EPL: Arsenal Can’t Win Premier League Title with ‘Okay’ Striker Gyokeres – Joleon Lescott Tells Arteta

Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has cast doubt on Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes, claiming Mikel Arteta’s side cannot lift the trophy with Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres leading the attack.

Arsenal signed Gyokeres from Sporting CP during the summer transfer window in a move aimed at bolstering their frontline. However, the 26-year-old has managed just three goals in ten appearances so far, prompting criticism from Lescott.

Speaking to Sky Bet, Lescott said:

“I would describe Viktor Gyokeres as ‘okay’. If you’re going to win the league, your striker can’t be okay; he has to be top.”

The former England international argued that Arsenal’s title challenge could falter due to a lack of cutting edge upfront, though he admitted the club might fare better in Europe.

“I don’t think Mikel Arteta can get Arsenal over the line in the Premier League. But in the Champions League, it’s different,” Lescott added. “With the way he rotates and the long gap before the knockout stages, that suits Arsenal better than having to be consistently good every single week to win the league.”

Arteta’s men currently sit among the top contenders in the Premier League, but the pressure is mounting for Gyokeres to deliver the goals that could define Arsenal’s season.
