Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has rejected reports that he defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claims as false and misleading.
Through his Media Adviser, Terver Akase, Ortom said the circulation of the alleged defection is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create confusion about his political alignment.
“The report is baseless and mischievous, produced by individuals unsettled by my continued influence in Benue politics,” the statement said.
Ortom alleged that the promoters of the story even fabricated an APC membership card purportedly bearing his name, circulating it online to lend false credibility to the claim. “This act is not only irresponsible but exposes the desperation of those behind it,” he added.
Reaffirming his commitment, Ortom stated that he remains a proud, committed, and influential member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also emphasized his ongoing leadership role in the party, noting that he continues to serve as leader of the PDP in Benue State and holds a respected position on the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
Ortom’s statement underscores his determination to maintain his political relevance within the PDP despite attempts by opponents to undermine him.
