A former student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Oyelade Habeeb Olawale, has been killed in a violent confrontation linked to suspected cult groups near the institution, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

Olawale, who studied Civil Engineering, was reportedly attacked during a clash involving ex-students connected to rival cult factions returning to the campus vicinity. The confrontation caused panic before school security personnel intervened.

Halimat Garba, Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, described the killing as “regrettable” and confirmed that several suspects have been arrested and handed over to security agencies for investigation.

“Normalcy has been restored, and academic activities continue without disruption,” Garba added. She also reassured that the institution remains committed to curbing violence and ensuring the safety of students and staff.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about cult-related violence in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, particularly when ex-students return to campus areas.
