Ex-NERC Boss Sam Amadi Urges Critics to Target Tinubu’s Policies, Not Personality

Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, has cautioned Nigerians against directing personal hatred at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging them instead to focus on his style of politics and governance.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Amadi argued that demonising Tinubu as an individual makes little sense if he is only replaced with another leader who embodies similar flaws.

“There is no sense in hating Tinubu as a person and bringing someone who is as heinous in politics and governance as him. That is what we did against [former President] Goodluck Jonathan,” Amadi wrote.

The public policy expert, who has been a consistent voice in Nigeria’s political discourse, stressed that genuine reform requires rejecting Tinubu’s brand of politics altogether and demanding a fundamentally different type of leadership.

“Hate Tinubu’s politics and policies and bring someone who is very different from him. That is what is rational and honest,” he added.

Amadi’s remarks recall the build-up to the 2015 elections, when opposition to Goodluck Jonathan was seen by some critics as more personal than ideological which is now a move many argue that has contributed to Nigeria’s recurring leadership crises.

His comments come at a time of heightened political debate in Nigeria, with Tinubu’s government facing criticism over economic hardship, inflation, and growing discontent across different sectors.
