Allegations that former Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, forged a degree certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) have been firmly dismissed by Engr. Clifford Onugwu, speaking for Concerned Enugu Citizens. The claims, widely shared on non-official online platforms, have no official backing and have sparked widespread misinformation online.

Engr. Onugwu said, “The report is false, misleading, and a clear misrepresentation of facts. There has been no officially released report by the Federal Government of Nigeria confirming any certificate forgery against Chief Uche Nnaji.” He emphasized that the allegations rely on unverified claims, speculative interpretations, and unsubstantiated narratives rather than factual verification.

According to Engr. Onugwu, “Matters relating to academic records and institutional documentation remain the responsibility of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and any legitimate clarification must come directly from the institution through its officially recognized communication channels.” He urged the public to disregard claims circulating online and to rely on verified sources.

Chief Nnaji has taken proactive steps to ensure transparency. Engr. Onugwu highlighted that the former minister “initiated a petition seeking transparency and clarification regarding discrepancies surrounding his academic records. This action demonstrates his commitment to due process, transparency, and accountability, contrary to the narrative being promoted by certain media outlets.”

The spokesperson also condemned attempts to sensationalize ongoing administrative reviews. “The attempt by some platforms to sensationalize ongoing reviews and present them as confirmed findings is irresponsible journalism and a violation of ethical media practice,” Engr. Onugwu said. He warned that until competent authorities conclude their reviews, any attempt to declare Chief Nnaji guilty is “premature, defamatory, and legally questionable.”

Engr. Onugwu concluded by praising Chief Nnaji’s public service record. “Chief Uche Nnaji remains a respected public servant who has contributed significantly to national development, and he continues to maintain his innocence and confidence in the rule of law and due process. The public is advised to exercise caution against the spread of misinformation and politically motivated narratives designed to damage reputations without evidence.”
