The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, has died after undergoing surgery in Lagos.

Her death was confirmed on Saturday by the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, who described her passing as a “huge and painful loss” to the force.

According to the statement, CSP Ngbaronye passed away on Friday at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, shortly after a surgical procedure.

Adebisi praised the late officer as a disciplined, upright, and selfless leader who served the Nigeria Police Force with “exceptional professionalism and integrity.”

“She was known for her diligence, discipline, and devotion to duty. Her humane approach to policing helped strengthen the relationship between the police and the public,” Adebisi said.

The spokesperson added that Ngbaronye was never found wanting in the discharge of her duties, noting that her sudden death has deeply shocked the entire Command.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has reportedly reached out to the late officer’s husband and elder brother, a priest, to personally convey condolences and offer the Command’s support to the grieving family.

“The Commissioner of Police and all officers and men of the Command deeply commiserate with her family and aged mother. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course,” Adebisi added.

Tributes have begun pouring in from officers and community members in Festac, who described Ngbaronye as a “true officer and a woman of compassion.”
