The Super Eagles have gained a new shot-stopper as FIFA has officially cleared Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo to represent Nigeria at the senior level.

Okonkwo, 24, was born in England to Nigerian parents, making him eligible to play for either nation. He previously featured for England’s youth teams but has now completed the formal process to switch allegiance.

The former Arsenal academy product’s eligibility update was confirmed on FIFA’s international player transfer platform on Tuesday, paving the way for his inclusion in Nigeria’s upcoming matches.

Okonkwo is expected to make his debut for the Super Eagles in friendlies against India and Jamaica in May, marking a significant boost to the team’s goalkeeping options.

The Super Eagles also have two additional friendlies scheduled in June against European heavyweights Poland and Portugal, providing Okonkwo a platform to stake his claim for a regular spot in the national team.

The call-up highlights Nigeria’s continued strategy of integrating diaspora talents into the squad, strengthening depth ahead of competitive fixtures and tournaments.
