FRSC Mobile Court Convicts 20 Drivers in Ogun for Overloading, Speeding and Traffic Violations

A mobile court set up by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has convicted 20 motorists for multiple traffic violations, including overloading and excessive speed, as authorities intensify efforts to curb reckless driving on Nigerian roads.

The convictions were secured during the Phase II sitting of the FRSC Mobile Court held at the Itori Unit Command, where offenders faced trial for various road safety infractions.

The court session was presided over by Chief Magistrate O.T. Odunsaya, who convicted all the offenders brought before the court.

40 offences recorded during enforcement operation

According to a statement issued by the FRSC’s Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Odunsi Afolabi, the proceedings recorded 40 separate offences.

“The proceedings saw 20 offenders arraigned and subsequently convicted, with no discharges recorded. A total of 40 offences were documented, 39 of which attracted various fines and none was sentenced to imprisonment,” Afolabi said.

Authorities explained that the enforcement operation targeted dangerous practices that frequently contribute to road crashes across the state.

Offences include overloading, speeding and licence violations

The violations prosecuted during the mobile court sitting included:

  • Failure to install speed limiting devices
  • Overloading of vehicles
  • Non-use of seatbelts
  • Driving without a valid driver’s licence
  • Faulty tyres and poor vehicle maintenance
  • Expired vehicle licences and number plate violations

FRSC officials said the offences were uncovered during routine patrols and enforcement operations across major traffic corridors in the state.

FRSC vows continued crackdown on reckless driving

Speaking during the session, Ogun Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin described the mobile court exercise as a key part of the command’s enforcement strategy.

According to him, the mobile courts help strengthen road safety operations by ensuring that traffic offenders are prosecuted promptly.

Fasakin said the initiative also increases enforcement visibility and encourages compliance with traffic regulations across the state.

He commended the orderly conduct of the proceedings and noted that the exercise was carried out under tight security provided by armed personnel.

The sector commander urged motorists to drive responsibly and maintain proper vehicle documentation, stressing that strict enforcement measures are necessary to reduce avoidable road crashes and protect lives on Nigerian highways.
