Key figures of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have met in Abuja for the inaugural session of the party’s Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation Committee, signalling a fresh push to stabilise internal party affairs ahead of future political contests.

The closed-door meeting took place on Wednesday night at the Yobe State Governor’s Lodge, hosted by the committee’s chairman and Governor of Yobe State, Mala Buni.

Among the high-profile attendees was Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, whose presence attracted attention amid ongoing political realignments within the APC. He was joined by fellow governors Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti).

Also present were senior party leaders and federal officials, including the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello; Senator Kabiru Marafa; former APC National Legal Adviser Muiz Banire; and Ibrahim Masari, Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Political Affairs.

Three governors who are members of the committee — Bassey Otu (Cross River), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara) and Umar Namadi (Jigawa) — were absent from the meeting.

Tinubu-backed committee targets APC unity

The committee was formally inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on 24 December 2025, with a clear mandate to resolve lingering internal disputes, strengthen party cohesion and improve grassroots mobilisation across the country.

Party insiders say the committee’s work is expected to play a critical role in managing factional tensions within the APC, particularly as political activities gradually gather momentum nationwide.

While details of Wednesday’s discussions were not disclosed, the gathering is seen as the first major step in translating the committee’s mandate into action.
