Nigerian socialite Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, has sparked controversy after alleging that Davido’s recent Grammy losses are part of a deliberate effort by unnamed Western music executives to pressure the Afrobeats star into compromising his values.
Davido was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards but lost to South African singer Tyla. The outcome prompted a reaction from Cubana Chief Priest, who took to Instagram to defend the Nigerian singer and question the motives behind the result.
In his post, he suggested that powerful figures in the Western music industry were attempting to “break” Davido for refusing to engage in what he described as “demonic” activities. He urged the singer to remain steadfast and continue producing music for his fans.
“Oyibo dey do everything possible to break a strong man so he can do their demonic sh*t with them but he will never do it. Heads up brother, open the bag and drop another hot one for us. E no dey finish, gbedu na water,” he wrote.
The comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some fans echoing his support for Davido while others criticised the claims as speculative.
Davido has not publicly responded to the remarks.
The Grammy Awards, regarded as one of the highest honours in global music, have increasingly featured African artists in recent years as Afrobeats and other genres gain international recognition.
