An alleged attempt to traffick two young women from Kano to Ghana has been halted by the Hisbah Board, preventing what officials say could have led to forced labour or sexual exploitation.
Deputy Commander General Dr Mujahideen Aminuddeen confirmed the interception in a statement on Monday, identifying the victims as 16-year-old Zahrau Abdu, from Zaria in Kaduna State, and 18-year-old Kalzihar Salim, from Fagge in Kano.
The board did not disclose whether any suspected traffickers were arrested, nor did it provide details of how the women were intercepted. However, Hisbah officials said the operation underscores their renewed commitment to tackling human trafficking and activities that violate national laws and Islamic principles.
The board reiterated that it will continue collaborating with relevant agencies to dismantle trafficking networks and protect vulnerable young women across the state.
