Comedian Basketmouth has criticised the widely circulated fight between social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) and content creator Mr Jollof, describing the clash onboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight as “embarrassing.”
Both men were detained on Monday by the Delta State Police Command after engaging in a physical altercation inside the aircraft, sparking outrage and shock across social media.
Reacting in a video posted on Instagram, Basketmouth questioned how two grown men could resort to violence in such a confined and sensitive environment.
“Like everybody else, I just saw the video of Mr Jollof and VDM fighting in a public space, not just any public place, but inside a plane. As plane tight reach, these grown men still find space dey fight,” he said. “And I asked myself, how did we get here? How embarrassing is this?”
He drew a comparison with his long-standing rift with fellow comedian AY Makun, stressing that despite their strained relationship, “it never got to the point that me and him go start to exchange punches.”
Basketmouth urged Nigerians to embrace peace, saying society appears to be drifting toward unnecessary conflict.
“Why can’t we just live in love and peace?” he asked.
The clash is the latest escalation in the bitter feud between the two internet personalities.
The tension heightened after VeryDarkMan alleged that Mr Jollof’s wife was involved with politicians and internet fraudsters to secure him political favour in Delta State. The couple responded by filing a ₦500 million defamation lawsuit against him.
Their mid-air fight now marks one of the most dramatic public confrontations between Nigerian celebrities in recent years.
