Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has dismissed claims that she deliberately leaked her sex tape to remain relevant in the entertainment industry.
The video, which surfaced online in 2021 after the singer refused to yield to a blackmailer, sparked widespread controversy and public backlash.
Speaking in a recent interview with US radio station Hot 97, Savage revealed the emotional toll the scandal took on her, stressing that she was unfairly vilified.
“I was bashed for my sex video. A lot of people think I was just trying to get sympathy. Even people with platforms were quite horrible and blamed me,” she said.
Savage added that accusations she orchestrated the leak were unfounded:
“They said I did it to be relevant. If I were doing that, I would’ve been intentional about it. I would have used better lighting, lingerie, and my facial expressions would have been on point.”
Despite the criticism, the award-winning singer said she has continued to focus on her career, though the experience remains a source of trauma.
