Ibadan Market Fire Destroys Shops, Billions in Goods Saved by Firefighters

A fire outbreak on Monday evening destroyed goods, household items, and properties in Iya Maryam Adebara Complex, Ogunpa Market, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Reports indicate that at least ten shops were affected before the blaze was brought under control. Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, noting that no casualties were recorded.

“Our officers, with the support of the Federal Fire Service, swiftly contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring shops and properties,” Akinwande said.

Investigations revealed that the fire was triggered by fueling a running generator by one of the occupants. The prompt response of the firefighters ensured that properties worth billions of naira were saved.

The Fire Service continues to urge shop owners and residents to exercise caution when handling generators and flammable materials to prevent similar incidents.
