Nigerian singer Busola Oke, widely known for her hit song Eleyele, has sparked widespread concern after sharing a tearful and deeply emotional message during a live session on TikTok.
The singer, who rose to fame for her powerful gospel vocals, appeared visibly distressed as she spoke about personal and professional struggles, lamenting feelings of loneliness and financial hardship.
During the live broadcast, Oke apologised to her fans while hinting at undisclosed decisions she may be considering.
“I’m done, I never plan to do this, but I can’t take it anymore,” she said tearfully.
She went on to question the value of talent in Nigeria’s music industry, suggesting that “good music doesn’t sell anymore” and expressing frustration over what she described as abandonment by colleagues and close associates.
“To my fans, I’m sorry… I never plan to do this but I can’t take it anymore,” she repeated.
The ‘Eleyele’ crooner painted a stark picture of her current state, speaking about being broke and feeling alone.
“How can you eat when there’s no food? How can you drive when there’s no car? How can you be at peace when there’s no peace?” she asked during the livestream.
Reflecting on her journey, Oke suggested that many people who once surrounded her during successful periods were no longer present in difficult times.
“When the going was good, there were so many people,” she said.
Clips from the livestream have since circulated widely across social media, triggering an outpouring of support from fans and industry watchers. Many expressed worry over her emotional wellbeing and called for empathy rather than criticism.
Busola Oke became a household name in gospel music circles following the success of Eleyele, a song that earned her recognition within Nigeria’s vibrant Christian music scene.
Her recent emotional outburst has reignited conversations about the pressures artists face in the entertainment industry, particularly around financial sustainability, relevance, and mental wellbeing.
As of press time, the singer has not released a formal statement clarifying her remarks.
